Job Title: IMPORTS MANAGER
Organization: Appliance World LG Uganda
Appliance World LG Uganda Ltd is seeking to recruit a highly experienced, strategic, and results-oriented Imports Manager to join its team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the company’s import operations, ensuring timely and cost-effective movement of goods while maintaining full compliance with applicable customs, trade, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, coordinate, and manage the company’s end-to-end import operations.
* Oversee international shipments from suppliers through to final delivery.
* Manage import documentation, customs clearance, shipping schedules, and related processes.
* Liaise with suppliers, freight forwarders, clearing and forwarding agents, customs authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
* Ensure accurate and timely preparation of import documentation.
* Monitor shipment schedules and proactively resolve delays, discrepancies, and logistical challenges.
* Ensure compliance with Uganda’s customs, import, tax, and trade regulations.
* Review import costs, freight charges, duties, taxes, and other associated expenses.
* Negotiate with shipping lines, freight forwarders, clearing agents, and other service providers to achieve competitive rates and efficient services.
* Track and monitor shipments from origin to destination.
* Maintain accurate records of all import transactions and documentation.
* Work closely with Finance, Procurement, Sales, Warehouse, and other departments to ensure smooth supply-chain operations.
* Identify opportunities to reduce import costs, improve efficiency, and minimize supply-chain risks.
* Prepare regular reports on imports, shipment status, costs, delays, and operational performance.
* Manage and monitor relationships with key logistics and international supply-chain partners.
* Ensure proper handling of import-related challenges and escalations.
* Provide strategic advice to management on import planning, logistics, costs, and international supply-chain matters.
Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, Business Administration, Procurement, Transport and Logistics, or a related field.
* Minimum 10 years of progressive professional experience in imports, logistics, supply chain, or a related field
* Strong practical knowledge of international trade and import procedures.
* Demonstrated experience managing international shipments and customs clearance processes.
* Experience working with freight forwarders, clearing agents, shipping companies, and international suppliers.
* Strong knowledge of import documentation, customs procedures, duties, taxes, and regulatory compliance.
* Excellent negotiation, coordination, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong leadership and stakeholder-management abilities.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office and relevant logistics/import management systems.
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.
