The Opportunity
CECIC is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Finance Officer to join our growing team in Kasese. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career finance professional eager to apply their expertise in a mission-driven organization.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring sound financial management, accountability, and compliance across our programs  helping to strengthen the financial backbone that supports our environmental and community-focused projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Processing & Bookkeeping: Process accounts payable and receivable, manage petty cash, and ensure timely payments.
  • Payroll Support: Assist in preparing monthly payroll and statutory deductions in compliance with Ugandan laws.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Conduct timely and accurate bank reconciliations for CECIC accounts.
  • Grant & Donation Management: Support the financial administration and reporting of grants and donor funds.
  • Budget Monitoring: Collaborate with project teams to track expenditures and prepare financial reports.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain an organized electronic and physical filing system for financial documents.
  • Audit & Compliance: Prepare and provide documentation for both internal and external audits.
  • Administrative Support: Offer general assistance to the finance team and other departments as needed.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in a finance or accounting role.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Sound understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a non-profit or NGO setting.
  • Familiarity with donor financial reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of Ugandan tax regulations applicable to NGOs.
