JOB OVERVIEW:
The civil foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating all civil works and maintenance activities on site. The role supervises all masons, plumbers, Hatchery walkways carpenters and all project casuals, at aquaculture operations at Yalelo Uganda.

The role requires hands-on leadership to ensure that project work is carried out safely, on time, within budget, and within quality standards. The foreman will work closely with the civil engineer, planner, expansion and commercial teams to support the ongoing CAPEX expansion projects.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure PPE use and safe practices in civil works and projects
  • Conduct safety inspections and enforce compliance.
  • Conduct weekly toolbox meetings and daily job briefings for coordination and safety.
  • Reinforce the 4 YU lifesaving rules
  • Ensure compliance with HSE permit to work system
  • Report and record all incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions/acts to HSE
  • Supervise a multi-disciplinary team of all project casuals, Masons, plumbers and carpenters for hatchery.
  • Supervise all civil works including earth works, drainages, concrete works, storm water drainages, structural finishings, and ensure site biosecurity facilities are well maintained.
  • Support the civil engineer in leading the construction of and maintenance of ponds, internal roads, effluent treatment ponds, and other projects on site.
  • Assign daily tasks and work schedules, monitor job completion and ensure quality of all civil work
  • Support project planning and work scheduling of all civil works
  • Ensure all works meet engineering drawings, specifications and local authority approvals.
  • Train masons and project casuals in best construction practices. Conduct evaluations and identify skill gaps.
  • Support the 6-day asset care management CMMS planning cycle, ensuring that all civil related work requests are completed on time.
  • Ensure respective civil maintenance and projects work orders are scheduled, executed and signed off.
  • Apply preventive maintenance practices to all facilities and civil structures
  • Ensure site expansion projects are accomplished in time, within budget, with good quality/standards
  • Plan and assign project and maintenance work ensuring proper delegation and productivity of the civil projects team
  • Ensure proper monitoring of hired project equipment and daily timesheet update.
  • Ensure daily attendance
  • Support commercial team with civil work requests, BoQs and drawings.
  • Ensure honesty and transparency in handling company funds, materials and assets.
  • Update As built drawings when modifications occur.
  • Prepare and review project CAD drawings, BoQs and work reports.
  • Demonstrate good computer skills, communicate well on teams, and prepare simple presentations/reports.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

Minimum Academic Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
  • Certification AutoCAD or ArchiCAD is a strong advantage.
  • Certificate in project management is desirable.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in civil works supervision, including earth works, pond construction and drainage systems.
  • Sound knowledge of structural works and construction standards.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or ArchiCAD, Microsoft and any CMMS system
  • Proven record of managing multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in industrial or aquaculture facilities is an added advantage.
