A successful candidate will have the following:
The Project Assistant – Regenerative Agriculture will support the implementation of regenerative agriculture and climate-resilient food systems interventions under the Improving Local Food Systems through Schools Project in Karamoja. Working under the supervision of the Regenerative Resilience Officer, the Project Assistant will provide day-to-day technical support to farmer organizations, schools, Community-Based Facilitators (CBFs), and lead farmers in the establishment and management of regenerative agriculture demonstration sites, school gardens, community seed banks, orange-fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) vine multiplication sites, agroforestry systems, water harvesting structures, and Farmer Field Schools.

The position will play a critical role in strengthening household resilience through the adoption of regenerative agriculture, Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), soil and water conservation, biodiversity restoration, and climate-smart production systems. The Project Assistant will also support community mobilization, capacity strengthening, monitoring, documentation, and collaboration with district technical departments to ensure quality implementation and sustainability of project interventions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Agriculture, preferably in Crop Production and Management, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, Agroecology, or a closely related field.
  • A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Agroecology, Agricultural Extension, or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
  • Additional training and certification in Regenerative Agriculture, Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA), Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), Agroforestry, Soil and Water Conservation, and Sustainable Land Management will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience implementing regenerative agriculture, climate-smart agriculture, food security or natural resource management projects.
  • Experience working with farmer organizations, community groups, schools and local government extension systems.
  • Experience facilitating community trainings and field demonstrations.
  • Previous experience working with NGOs or development partners is an added advantage.

Job Level Specifications

  • Strong understanding of climate adaptation and environmental sustainability principles.
  • Good knowledge of regenerative agriculture, climate-smart agriculture and sustainable land management.
  • Practical understanding of Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR), agroforestry and ecosystem restoration.
  • Knowledge of soil health improvement techniques including composting, mulching, green manures and organic soil amendments.
  • Understanding of water harvesting technologies including bioswales, contour bunds, terraces and small-scale irrigation systems.
  • Experience facilitating adult learning using participatory approaches such as Farmer Field Schools (FFS).
  • Strong community mobilization, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Good report writing, documentation and computer skills (Microsoft Office applications).
  • Ability to work independently under minimum supervision in remote field locations.
