Technician (Biosciences) job at Mountains of the Moon University

Job Purpose:

To conduct laboratory procedures, support research  and maintain laboratory equipment and materials.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct laboratory experiments and routine biotechnology procedures.
2. Prepare reagents, culture media, and laboratory solutions.
3. Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
4. Support research activities through sample collection, processing, and data recording.
5. Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, and quality standards.
6. Maintain accurate laboratory records, inventories, and documentation.
7. Assist in training students and academic staff on laboratory procedures
8. Manage laboratory supplies and report equipment faults or shortages.
9. Facilitate practical lessons for students to support the research, teaching, and learning programme
10. Perform any other official duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Person Specifications:

a) Qualifications

1. Honors Bachelor’s Degree (first class or second class upper) in Biotechnology or Molecular biology or Biochemistry or Microbiology from a recognized awarding Institution.
2. Should be registered with a professional organization where required
3. Excellent knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for laboratories (ISO etc)
4. Demonstrated ability to prepare reagents, media, and laboratory solutions accurately
5. Should know septic techniques, tissue culture, and microbial handling.

b) Experience

1. One (1) year of laboratory experience or research support in an academic or research Institution.
2. Should have practical experience in molecular biology or biotechnology techniques
