On behalf of our client Spiro, we are looking for competent, skilled and experienced Clerk of Works (Quality Assurance Inspector) to join our team in Uganda.
Job Summary
The Clerk of Works is responsible for carrying out field quality inspections and verification activities throughout the lifecycle of Spiro swap station projects. The role ensures that all civil, electrical, and mechanical installation works comply with approved engineering drawings, technical specifications, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and quality standards before sites are commissioned and handed over for operations.
The role serves as the field representative of the Quality Assurance function and supports the Internal Quality Assurance Lead in ensuring consistent implementation of Spiro’s Quality Management System across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Construction Quality Assurance
- Inspect swap station construction and installation activities.
- Verify compliance with approved engineering drawings, specifications, and approved Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Ensure contractors adhere to approved installation procedures and quality standards.
- Monitor workmanship during civil, electrical, and mechanical installation works.
- Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where deviations are identified.
- SOP & Process Compliance
- Verify compliance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure implementation of quality checklists during site setup.
- Ensure contractors follow approved installation methodologies.
- Pre-Commissioning
- Conduct pre-commissioning inspections.
- Witness electrical testing, including:
- Continuity testing
- Insulation Resistance testing
- Earth Resistance testing
- Phase sequence verification
- Functional equipment testing
- Verify completion of punch list items before commissioning.
- Commissioning
- Witness commissioning activities.
- Verify that all systems are operating as designed.
- Confirm site readiness for operational handover.
- Prepare commissioning inspection reports.
- Post-Commissioning Quality Audits
- Conduct Defects Liability Period (DLP) inspections.
- Verify closure of corrective actions.
- Monitor contractor performance during warranty periods.
- Reporting
- Prepare daily inspection reports.
- Prepare pre-commissioning reports.
- Prepare commissioning reports.
- Maintain NCR and Corrective Action Registers.
- Submit weekly and monthly quality reports to the Internal QA Lead.
- Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements to installation methods.
- Identify recurring quality defects and trends.
- Support training of contractors and technicians on quality requirements.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
Education
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical installation, construction supervision, quality assurance, commissioning, or Clerk of Works activities.
Professional Skills
- Knowledge of electrical installation standards.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs).
- Knowledge of electrical testing and commissioning procedures.
- Knowledge of earthing systems and electrical protection.
- Experience in contractor supervision.
- Strong report writing skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to travel extensively.
Added Advantage
- Experience in EV charging infrastructure, battery swap stations, renewable energy, or power distribution projects.
